PBP equipment survey

Postby msilver » Mon Oct 15, 2007 12:54 pm

(The following message was sent by Jan Heine to the "randon" list.)

Bicycle Quarterly is conducting a survey of the equipment used by
American riders in PBP 2007. We want to get real numbers on the
equipment riders used, rather than the general impressions we have
had in the past. The results of the survey will be published in
Bicycle Quarterly and in the RUSA newsletter.

If you rode in PBP this year - whether you finished or not - please
take a 2-3 minutes to complete the brief survey at

http://surveys.bikelist.org/pages/survey.aspx?sid=4

The survey will be available only until Sunday, October 21, 2007, so
please don't delay filling it out.

To make the numbers meaningful, we need to get as many PBP riders to
participate as possible. To make it more interesting, there are a few
prizes: every 70th participant will receive a 1-year subscription to
Bicycle Quarterly (or a 1-year extension of their existing
subscription), and every 150th participant will receive the hardcover
book "The Golden Age of Handbuilt Bicycles" with randonneur bikes
from 1903 until 2003.

Please forward this message to anybody you know who participated in
PBP 2007, for example, forward it to your local randonneuring club's
message board. Getting as many people as possible to participate is
crucial to get meaningful results.

Thank you.

A reminder from Jan Heine

Postby msilver » Fri Oct 19, 2007 9:20 am

(A reminder to those who rode PBP to fill out the survey, if you haven't done so already.)

The response to our PBP equipment survey has been outstanding. Almost
half of all RUSA PBP participants have responded. This is wonderful,
and it provides an opportunity to get really meaningful data, if we
can get responses from most of those who have not yet responded.

So if you did ride in PBP 2007 and haven't taken the survey yet,
please do take a minute or two and go to

http://surveys.bikelist.org/pages/survey.aspx?sid=4

The survey will only be available for three more days, until midnight
Sunday, October 21.

Your response really makes a difference, whether you finished the
ride or not, whether you used a racing bike, a recumbent or some
other type of bike, whether you used fenders or not, etc. We want to
hear from you!

Please help make this a success. It is the most comprehensive survey
of randonneuring equipment ever undertaken. It will show what works
and what does not, and help randonneurs all over the world to make
better equipment choices. We are counting on you!

We also have had quite a few responses from other countries, so we
are opening the survey to all participants in PBP 2007.

Please forward this message to anybody you know who participated in
PBP 2007, for example, forward it to your local randonneuring club's
message board.

Thank you.
